My journey within Acorns has been one of significant personal and professional growth. From the outset, each shift provided a new learning opportunity, allowing me to master the fundamentals of my role while simultaneously building strong relationships with both service users and colleagues.
Transitioning from a domiciliary care worker to a support worker came with its own set of challenges. However, with the ongoing support and mentorship from management and my colleagues, I was able to adapt, grow, and develop within my new role. As I gained more experience, I became increasingly confident in supporting individuals with diverse needs. Over time, I took on additional responsibilities and learned to manage complex situations with calmness and professionalism, always maintaining empathy and a person-centred focus.
I have since progressed to the role of Team Leader, a position that has introduced new dimensions to my journey, including leadership, oversight, and mentorship responsibilities. With support from the company, I also completed training to become an Autism Ambassador a role that has further deepened my understanding and has been both enlightening and rewarding.
Conclusion
Looking ahead, I aim to continue growing in leadership and aspire to progress into a management position, where I can contribute to service improvements that positively impact both staff and the individuals we support.
