My achievements in Acorns have a wide range:
– I have received ample training followed by refresher courses in Team Teach, first aid, managing mental health and challenging behaviours, which has helped me a lot in supporting individuals safely. I have also completed several grey matter trainings.
– I have improved the quality of life of individuals I support with respect to their hygiene, prompting them to activities and increasing independence.
– I have succeeded in reducing behavioural challenges of individuals by implementing positive behavioural interventions.
– I have equally succeeded in building strong relationships with individuals I support using increased communication, reassurance and showing them I understand how they feel.
– I have learnt how to communicate with other professionals like paramedics, medical doctors, and nurses involved in care.
– As team leader, I have achieved this by working with my team members, communicating with each of them appropriately to continue meeting the needs of the individual we support.
Conclusion
Working in Acorns has also presented challenges, sometimes working with the individual we support due to their diverse needs, but I have always sailed through these more or less with assistance from other team members and my manager, who is always there to listen, Guide, teach and correct.
